EMT Course Learning Objectives

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course is designed to prepare students for entry-level practice in prehospital emergency care. This comprehensive program provides academic instruction, psychomotor training, and clinical perspective necessary to assess, treat, and transport sick and injured patients in a variety of emergency and non-emergency environments.

Throughout the course, students develop the ability to perform thorough patient assessments, manage airway and breathing emergencies, provide resuscitative care, and address a broad range of medical, traumatic, obstetrical, and behavioral emergencies. Instruction also includes the administration of approved medications, ambulance operations, patient lifting and moving, documentation, communication, and the legal and ethical principles that govern emergency medical practice. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and professional conduct. Upon successful completion, students will be prepared to meet the expectations of EMT education and to provide safe, compassionate, and effective patient care as members of the Emergency Medical Services system.
