EMR Learning Objectives.

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond effectively to medical emergencies in the prehospital setting. This course prepares participants to recognize, assess, and manage a variety of emergency situations while providing immediate care until higher-level emergency medical personnel assume responsibility.

Students will learn to perform scene size-up, conduct primary and secondary patient assessments, and identify conditions requiring urgent intervention. Instruction includes airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) use, bleeding control, shock management, and the care of patients experiencing medical and traumatic emergencies. In addition, the course emphasizes communication, patient interaction, responder safety, and professionalism within the Emergency Medical Services system. Upon successful completion, students will be prepared to function competently as Emergency Medical Responders and provide safe, effective, and timely care in emergency situations.
